Capisco’s patinations are all hand applied and maintain the integrity of their fine art history.

After training in fine art and sculpture at Central School of Art in the late 60’s, Andy Elton went on to work in Italy as a sculptor and throughout the early 70’s honed his skills in the patination of finished bronzes at the famous foundries of Tomasi & Belifiouri, Pietrasanta in Tuscany.

In 1976, Andy returned to the UK to form A&A Sculpture Casting, the famous fine art foundry, which he owned and ran for over 17 years.

In 1989, Andy created Capisco Ltd to specialise exclusively in patinations. Architects had begun to show an interest in Andy’s patination skills whilst he was still running the Foundry. A new market, outside the art market was opening up and Capisco was formed to serve it.

Andy’s son-in-law Ali Thoburn joined the company as a patinator over 20 years ago and helped develop the company into an organisation robust enough to service the diversity of projects that were coming its way.

Under Andy and Ali’s leadership, the company has since expanded from a highly skilled workforce of just 3 in 1989 to 15 today, and is based in an 11,000 square foot workshop in the East End of London.

The management team is:

Andy Elton, Managing Director (patinator & sculptor)
Ali Thoburn, Project manager (fabricator & patinator)
Kerry Spring, Enquiries (admin, accounts & scheduling)

Capisco is unique in the quantity and quality of the work it is able to produce and is now serving the work of visionary architects and designers all over the world.
